MY MARIA: This is the ultimate long shot. Another one of my fool for love themes. I love this song for it Latin, Spanish, Calypso feel. The images are like a video in my head. Maria dancing around the room so passionately while her lover plays the congas and watches proudly thinking that she was his and his lover only as all the men stare at her - wanting and wishing to be with her. I think that maybe in another life I lived a Latin life and got hurt by Maria. I recorded My Maria on my sixth album Gallery in 1984, however I thought it had too many instruments on the track and the focus was not on the story and sensitivity. I wanted to try it again. Again the lyrics are so free on top of the beautiful rhythms with the great flamenco blues-guitar leads played by Rick Edgett. You got it right Rick - thanks.
